POTENTIAL MAJOR WINTER STORM FOR THE WEEKEND

Potential Major Winter Storm For The Weekend:

We’re tracking a potential major winter storm this weekend that could bring significant snow, with some areas seeing a wintry mix that may reduce totals but increase ice and power outage risks. The heaviest snow is expected Saturday afternoon into early Sunday, with snow showers ending late Sunday.

There’s a 60% chance of 8″+ of snow and a 40% chance of 12″+ in the Tri-Cities, though amounts may vary, especially in parts of NE Tennessee. Now is the time to check winter supplies, as travel could be impacted into early next week.

Cold conditions will persist, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s and lows near 10° Monday night. Any snow that falls may linger due to below-normal temperatures.

WAYS TO PREPARE:

Emergency officials urge residents to prepare now to stay safe during power outages and dangerous travel conditions. Having basic supplies on hand—such as flashlights, a battery-powered weather radio, three days of food and water, prescription medications, and heating fuel—can make a critical difference. Officials also stress the importance of working smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors, and safe backup heat sources. Families should not forget infant, special-needs, and pet supplies.

Ahead of a storm, residents are advised to monitor weather updates, charge devices, fuel vehicles and generators, and limit travel. During the storm, stay indoors, avoid roads, and use heating sources safely. If power is lost, conserve batteries, layer clothing, and never use grills or generators indoors. If travel becomes unavoidable, share your route, carry an emergency kit, and if stranded, remain with your vehicle until help arrives.
