Jonesville, VA: Lee County Commonwealth’s Attorney H. Fuller Cridlin announced that Daniel Vanover, of Pennington Gap, has been sentenced to 11 consecutive life sentences following his conviction for 11 counts of rape after a multi-day jury trial last month. Cridlin noted that each count carried a mandatory life sentence, leaving the Court with no discretion in sentencing.
Cridlin released the following statement: “This outcome reflects the hard work and dedication of many individuals and agencies committed to seeking justice. I want to especially commend Lee County Sheriff’s Lt. Todd Jones, the lead investigator, for his outstanding work and communication with my office throughout this lengthy and complex investigation and prosecution. I also want to recognize the invaluable support of the Child Advocacy Center and Child Protective Services, as well as the exemplary performance of Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney Sarah H. Wynn.”
Cridlin concluded: “Finally, I would also like to recognize my administrative team-Martha Elkins, Amanda Lovell, and Summer Wynn-for their tireless efforts in managing the significant workload this case required. Their dedication and extra work behind the scenes were crucial to ensuring a smooth and effective prosecution.”
Cridlin declined to provide specific details of the case, stressing the importance of protecting the privacy of the victims in such sensitive matters.
