LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE PRESS RELEASE


Deputy John Freeman was assisting Sergeant Dylan Ball on a shoplifting call at Wal-Mart in Jonesville Virginia, involving a Ms. Amber Stephens and a Mr. Aundra Jenkins. While assisting with this call it became known that Ms. Amber Stephens’s Driver license was revoked.
Deputy Freeman saw Ms. Amber Stephens get into a vehicle and drive away from Walmart. He then left Walmart in his marked patrol vehicle and located Ms. Amber Stephens Driving east bound on Veterans Memorial Highway. Ms. Stephens pulled the 2021 gray Jeep SUV into Lee’s Food Mart.
Deputy Freeman pulled into the parking lot and activated his emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop due to having prior knowledge that her drivers license was revoked. Captain Taylor Scott and Lt. Chris Dillman arrived on scene to assist. Ms. Stephens gave consent to search her purse. Deputy Freeman found a digital scale with a white crystal likes residue and a small plastic container containing white crystal likes residue. Deputy Freeman continued to search the purse and found a magazine to a handgun. Ms. Stephens advised the gun was in the glove box it was a Ruger LCP 380. Deputy Freeman checked a small pink bag then Ms. Stephens advised it was hers. Inside he found $555.00 in cash, 30 8/2mg Suboxone strips; 9 small white plastic bags with crystal like substance, 1 small orange tablet and powder was found in a plastic bag (Subutex), and 1 baggie containing 1 capsule containing a brown substance. A straw containing a white crystal-like substance and several empty syringes within a black bag in the car. Ms. Stephens admitted to using Methamphetamine.
Ms. Stephens age 36 from 109 Raccoon Rd Big Stone Gap was arrested and charged with Drug Possession of SCH I/II, Drug Possession of SCH III; Firearm: Possession By Non-Violent Felon Conviction within 10 years; Firearm: Possession with SCH I/II Drugs; Drive Motor Vehicle- License Revoked Suspended.
