The Tri-State Vietnam Veterans took donations for months to ensure a World War II memorial monument was set last week at Middlesboro City Hall.
The monument is a dedication to the men and women of Bell County, Claiborne County, Tennessee, and Lee County Virginia — both civilian and military, who served our nation and the world in World War II.
It was placed among the other monuments dedicated to other wars already located at Middlesboro City Park. The group placed a Vietnam monument near the fountain in 1998 and the new monument is similar, but somewhat larger in scale.
Engraved in the memorial are moving words and the number of casualties from each branch of military service.
The total cost of the endeavor was $15,000.
