A school in Wise County has been recognized for a national honor for the first time ever. Coeburn Middle School has been awarded the prestigious "Blue Ribbon Award."
The school learned Wednesday they were 1 of a little more than 300 schools to get the National Blue Ribbon Award which recognizes schools for their overall achievements.
In Tennessee had only 6 schools honored, none were from the Northeast.
In Virginia, 7 schools received the award. Coeburn Middle and Watauga Elementary in Abingdon were the only ones from Southwest, Virginia.
