The Virginia City Hybrid Energy Center met two major milestones, this week. The Dominion coal fired power plant synchronized its generator to the regional transmission grid and introduced run of mine coal to one of the station’s two circulating fluidized bed boilers. Dominion Resources Services say these are just steps in testing and fine tuning the operation and will continue for several weeks. The plant is 97 percent complete and will be ready to begin commercial operation around June 1st. Still, local officials are excited. Virginia Delegate Terry Kilgore and State Senator Phillip Puckett both talked about the progress in the General Assembly, yesterday, on the floors of the House and Senate.
