Wise County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Save Another Life

On April 23, 2018 Wise County E-911 Dispatch received a call of a possible overdose in the Dwina area of Wise County. Deputies responding found a 49 year old female barely breathing and unconscious. Deputies administered 4 MG of nasal Naloxone (Narcan). The female began taking deeper breaths after only a few seconds but remained unconscious. Castlewood Lifesaving Crew responded and transported the patient to Mountain View Regional Medical. A Sheriff’s Office employee contacted the family to check on the status of the patient and were advised that she was awake and responding well.
This is the third such incident in which Wise County Sheriff’s Office Deputies have administered Naloxone and all three patients have survived. The Sheriff’s Office received Narcan from Adapt Pharma in December of 2016 and deputies have been trained to carry the lifesaving drug that is the only known antidote of opioids or synthetic opioids. The Sheriff’s Office has also been instrumental in training other local law enforcement and service agencies to recognize and respond to opioid overdose and to administer Naloxone.
