Wise County school authorities claim that because of fewer students and the economy, schools will need to focus on training students for college and not only existing occupations but also for future fields. The division’s Career and Technical Center continues to provide a path for students seeking to learn a trade rather than continuing on to college and it may be the Center’s role will increase in the future. Recently enrollment in Wise County schools has dropped from more than 8,000, to an estimated less than 5,400. Currently the school systems offers programs centering on Cybersecurity, HVAC systems and coming this Fall a new Pharmacy Technician program.
