A Wise County man has been indicted earlier this summer on four felony charges following a shooting appeared in court on Monday.
James Lester Smith, Jr., of Appalachia, was arraigned in Circuit Court. He is charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding and two weapon-related charges, according to court information.
Smith was hospitalized following the August shooting at a home in the Exeter community after police said he turned the gun on himself. Smith was indicted by a grand jury just a few days after the shooting, court records show.
Deputies also found 24-year-old Casey Rae Reed at the scene suffering from a single gunshot wound. She was later treated at an area hospital.
