Wise County Grand Jury Indictments 02

Part two of our story concerning a Wise County Grand Jury that recently indicted five people on varying charges of alleged violence, and one individual who was charged with Child Abuse and Neglect. Among those indicted were;
Tamera Mariea Bailey, age 37 of Norton on one count of Child Abuse and Neglect, which is punishable by up to ten years in prison. According to the criminal complaint against her, Norton Social Services contacted law enforcement in early March regarding the twelve day old child who required treatment for a respiratory virus. A doctor had advised Bailey to bring the infant to the hospital for evaluation and treatment. The infant tested positive for Methamphetamine/Amphetamine. Norton Officials felt concern regarding the failure of the mother to bring the infant in for medical appointments. Eventually the infant was admitted to the hospital during a medical crisis and then flown on to Niswonger Children’s Hospital in critical condition.
Sheila Jo Witt, age 43 of Appalachia is facing one count of Assaulting and Battering a Police Officer, which is punishable by up to five years in prison. The complaint states that an Appalachian Police Officer responded to the residence of Witt in response to numerous complaints that someone was on her property and “trying to kill her.” When the officer claimed he would not do anything, Witt became upset and approached him in a menacing fashion, then resisted when he attempted to detain her.
Floyd Franklin Padgett, age 43 of Wise faces one count of Malicious Wounding, and one count of Preventing Someone from Contacting Law Enforcement, punishable by up to one year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
