Virginia House Bill 2528

Wise County & City of Norton Commonwealth Attorney Chuck Slemp believes like a lot of us do that drug dealers should face a murder charge if their customers overdose on a Schedule I or Schedule II substance. In opposition to that, Governor Northam amended legislation that provides the dealer a defense for trying to help their overdosed customer/victim. House Bill 2528 would make a dealer guilty of felony homicide if their customer overdoses, with a penalty of serving five to forty years in prison. The House of Delegates voted 51-47 to reject Northam’s proposed changes, which means that Northam has thirty days to approve or veto the Bill.
