Vernon Reeves Sentenced on Indecent Liberties with a Child

In nearby Wise County, a Norton City man has been sentenced to serve four years in prison for Indecent Liberties with a Child. According to Wise County and the City of Norton Commonwealth’s Attorney Chuck Slemp III, Vernon Reeves age 65, was sentenced in Wise County Circuit Court to ten years with six of them suspended in a series of incidents that took place between May and August of 2019.
Mr. Slemp went on to state that Reeves had made “unwanted and inappropriate sexual advances” to the fifteen year old female victim, advances that included touching her, licking her ear and proposing four different times to perform sexual acts on her.
Slemp went on to add that the victim had recorded one of these instances on her cell phone which she then turned over the recording to investigators. When confronted, Reeves told investigators that he did not touch the girl inappropriately but referred to his sexual offers to her as “trash talk.”
Reeves pled guilty to four counts of Indecent Liberties with a Child while in a custodial relationship. Slemp said that “His words and actions amounted to grooming this child for sexual purposes.”
Reeves will remain in the Duffield Regional Jail until his transfer to the Virginia Department of Corrections.
