Virginia First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe announced the Virginia 3-6-5 Project yesterday. The project was initiated from an $8.8 million grant from the USDA to end child hunger in Southwest Virginia. The finds will ensure that all children have access to food at breakfast and through the summer.
Counties taking part in this program include Lee and Scott Counties. Schools will soon begin programs that offer children three nutritious meals a day, 365 days a year. McAuliffe added that 51% of children live below the poverty line.
