USP Lee On Lockdown After Warden Struck By Inmate

USP Lee is on limited operational status after the warden was struck in the face by an inmate while conducting a tour with other executive staff on Thursday. The warden and another officer restrained the inmate.
He suffered a minor cut above his eye and the assisting officer got a slight shoulder strain. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Spokesperson Ed Ross told WCYB that  the warden implements “management by walking around,” which involves interacting with the prison population, intended to provide transparency and interaction to the overall prison climate.

USP Lee remains in lockdown “out of an abundance of caution.”

It’s unclear if there was any motive for the attack. The incident is being investigated by the FBI.
