Union Loses To Clarke County In State Semifinals

Early turnovers created a deficit that was too much to overcome for the Union Bears on Saturday afternoon in Berryville. The Clarke County rushing attack provided the Eagles with 361 yards and helped them pick up the 43-15 win.

It was a crushing loss for a group of Union seniors who took their school to its first state semifinal appearance.

The Bears offense, which produced 156 yards on the ground and 107 through the air, scored its final touchdown of the contest when Noaks hauled in a 32 yard pass from Spears with 11:01 remaining. Spears completed 12 of 21 passes, but tossed three interceptions.

Clarke County attempted only one pass during the game.

Union’s Braxton Bishop finished with 43 yards on the ground on seven carries, while James Mitchell hauled in five passes for 60 yards.

Clarke County advances to the VHSL 2A state championship to play Appomattox on Saturday.
