The two people killed in a crash on U.S. Highway 23 in Scott County on Tuesday have been identified.
Marvin D. Clark Sr., 47, of Pennington Gap, and passenger, Regina L. Spivey, 39, of Pennington Gap were hit by Robert S. Taylor, 47, of Duffield after a van driven by Taylor ran off the right side of the road and struck the guardrail. The impact of that crash caused the vehicle to cross back over the southbound lanes and into the median.
The Ford van then pulled back onto 23 and continued southbound before running off the left side of the highway, going through the median, and continuing south in the northbound lanes of 23 where it struck a 2004 Dodge pickup head-on. Both Clark and Spivey died at the scene.
Taylor was flown to Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee, for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time. Charges are pending.
