Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

According to a Lee County Sheriff’s Office Press Release, a local person has been arrested on various drug charges.  Tuesday, May 18, Mark Smith, a 50 year old male of Dryden, was arrested after officers performed a traffic stop on the car he was driving.  Deputy Taylor and Srgt Cook of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office performed the traffic stop and administered a field sobriety test, which Mr. Smith failed.  Upon searching Mr. Smith’s vehicle, officers found a large plastic bag containing approximately 36 grams of Methamphetamine, along with an additional small bag containing Methamphetamine, a partial Xanax pill, two unidentified capsules.  There was also two sets of digital scales, numerous unused baggies and a Glock 20 10mm pistol.  Mr. Smith was taken into custody and charged with DUID 1st offense, Possession of Schedule I/II controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in possession of Schedule I/II controlled substance, possession of schedule IV controlled substance and refusal of a blood test.  Mr. Smith was held on a $5,500 secured bond and was transported to Duffield Regional Jail.
