Town Council Approves Hiring Additional Part-time Police Officers

The Pennington Gap Town Council recently voted to amend the General Budget for the fiscal year 2017-2018 during their regular meeting. The Council proceeded to approve the purchase of property for the Fire Department’s second location in Woodway soon.
Keith Harless, Town Manager, submitted a request from Lee County Sheriff, Gary Parsons to utilize Lee Theater in Pennington Gap for a training seminar slated for March 10th concerning church security. The Town Council approved the request that includes bringing in a guest speaker for the seminar and waived the usual fees charged.
Currently the Sheriff’s Office oversees the town Police Department and requested the hiring of four additional certified police officers to cover the shortage of available officers due to injuries. The Town Council then voted to remove the hiring freeze that was put into place last month in order to allow the addition of part time police officers.
