Gas prices in VA are averaging at $1.90/gallon as many families take to the road for Thanksgiving. According to gasbuddy.com, Tennessee's average is currently $1.89/gallon, along with Kentucky. The national average, at $2.20/gallon, is the lowest heading into a Thanksgiving holiday since 2008 when it was $1.95/gallon.
VDOT is suspending highway work zones during the five-day peak Thanksgiving travel period to reduce congestion on interstates and major highways. Lane closures will be lifted on most major roads in Virginia from noon Wednesday, Nov. 25, until noon Monday, Nov. 30.
