November 4th, 2015
A Lee County teen was killed in a single vehicle crash early Wednesday, according to the Virginia State Police.
The VSP reported being called to the scene at 5:40 a.m. on U.S. Route 58-A at the intersection of State Route 982. A 1999 Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Devin J. Scott, 18, of Pennington Gap, was traveling east on 58-A when it ran off the right side of the road and grazed the guardrail.
The truck then crossed back into the eastbound lanes and began to overturn through the median into the westbound lanes, the VSP said, continuing off the left side of the highway, over the guardrail and struck a utility pole.
Scott was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He died at the scene. The VSP said speed was a factor and the crash remains under investigation.
