A suspect has been taken into custody after a suspicious package with protuding wires was found at the Harrogate, TN post office Friday morning. Area businesses were forced to close and some buildings on the LMU campus were evacuated. A number of law enforcement and emergency management officials were called to the scene including the Knox County Bomb Squad who later detonated the device for safety. No injuries were reported during the incident.
No explosive or hazardous materials were found. Some officials say further testing may be needed on the item in question, but a suspect has been taken into custody. Shawn David Bailey has been charged with aggravated criminal trespassing and hoax explosive device, both felony charges. His motive is unclear. Bailey is being held without bond in the Claiborne County Jail. Detective Tim Shrout says federal charges are pending as well.
