On May 22, 2019 at approximately 3:40pm a Wise County Deputy was waived down on Kent Junction Road near Appalachia, VA and received a report that a car had just been stolen. The deputy notified Wise County Dispatch to broadcast the stolen vehicle information. As soon as the broadcast was given another deputy observed the vehicle on Birchfield Road in Wise, VA. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle when the driver accelerated in an attempt to flee. The suspect drove in a reckless manner, passing a school bus and driving through a yard on Birchfield Road. The suspect turned on to Stevens Street and the deputy observed another school bus coming toward them.
