Sheriff Grant Kilgore on Family Cemetery Damage

Sheriff Grant Kilgore’s Office is currently investigating the vandalism discovered at family cemetery. Dating back to the 1800’s, a portion of stones and markers have recently been damaged by gunfire of varying calibers. The cemetery is only accessible by a dirt road and the damage was discovered by visitors over the Memorial Day weekend.
Kilgore stated, “There were some shell casings found. There were some high powered rifles, but there were also some hand gun shell casings found.”
Investigators are hunting for those responsible who will face criminal charges in an effort to recoup some of the expenses for the replacement or possible restoration of the headstones and grave markers. The charges could include Defacing a Gravesite, Trespassing and Vandalism.
