Search Warrant Operation Targets Methamphetamine

Wise County Sheriff Ronnie Oakes, Town of Coeburn Police Chief Scott Brooks, and Wise County & City of Norton Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp announced the execution of search warrants at three locations in and around the Town of Coeburn.  
 
On Thursday, September 27, 2018, a multi-agency operation took place at three separate locations in Wise County, Virginia.  The Town of Coeburn Police Department, Wise County Sheriff's Department, Virginia State Police, and the Southwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force executed search warrants with the assistance of officers from several local law enforcement agencies, including the Norton City Police Department, Big Stone Gap Police Department, Dickenson County Sheriff's Office, Lee County Sheriff's Office and Wise County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office. 
 
Sheriff Ronnie Oakes said, "I am proud of my department and our ongoing efforts to keep dangerous drugs from getting to the streets."
Chief Scott Brooks said, "We are working hard to disrupt the distribution of illegal drugs and make our community safer.  I am thankful for the assistance of so many agencies in making today's operation a success."
 
Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp said, "I am honored to work alongside these dedicated officers in our joint effort to make our community safer.  Fighting the scourge of drug dealing and substance abuse remains among our highest priorities." 
 
Today's operation was a result of an extensive investigation by participating agencies into the illegal sale and manufacture of dangerous illegal narcotics, including methamphetamine.  Illegal narcotics, over $2,500 in cash, and an automobile were seized.  Three individuals were arrested today and the investigation remains ongoing.
