A Russell County doctor is being sued by the estate of a former patient.
Doctor Dwight Bailey, Appalachian Emergency Physicians and Family Health Care Associates of Southwest Virginia is being sued on behalf of Shawn Matthew Mackee accuse those defendants of malpractice and seek a judgment of three million dollars.
During the trial on December 22, the three defendants filed answers and denied any wrongdoing by Bailey.
Bailey's license remains under suspension for two years after a report by the board of medicine found Bailey had prescribed a large amount of opiate drugs to 9 patients with drug-seeking behavior over a six-year period.
Five of those patients died.
Doctor Bailey neither admitted nor denied the findings from that report.
