Rubber Bullet Update

The latest update on the Big Stone Gap woman, Melissa Holmes age 28, that was arrested after a brief car chase with Lee County Police on September 25th. Sheriff Gary Parsons stated that the Lee County Sheriff's Department had received numerous call regarding a red vehicle that was being driven in a reckless manner in the Walmart parking lot located in Jonesville. Responding officers attempted a traffic stop near Walmart but Holmes did not pull over so officers were forced to pursue her. Waiving a firearm out her vehicle's window Holmes ignored flashing police lights, sirens and even red traffic lights, running thru several red lights until reaching the McDonald's parking lot in Pennington Gap. Already notified of the situation, the town of Pennington Gap's police Chief Jason Kilbourne entered the scene and proceeded to drive in the opposite direction ramming Holme's vehicle head on, thus ending the chase. After exiting her vehicle Melissa Holmes brandished a firearm while holding a knife according to eyewitness Sheriff Parsons. Law enforcement personnel tasered Holmes several times with no apparent effect so that Chief Kilbourne resorted to shooting rubber bullets at Holmes to disarm and apprehend her. Immediately following they were able to ascertain that the firearm was unloaded. Holmes is now facing a variety of charges including brandishing a firearm, eluding police and reckless driving. Sheriff Gary Parsons commended all the officers involved for doing a good job in a tense situation.
