A respected man from Pound, VA passed away at his home on Tuesday.
Wayne Leftwich, 74, retired teacher and former high school coach serving his first year of a four-year term on the Wise County School Board.
Leftwich was enjoying a day on his porch and passed away suddenly while his wife, Sally, was inside getting Wayne a drink. When she returned, he was unresponsive.
In Virginia, a school board has 15 days to notify a Circuit Court judge of a vacancy. The judge will determine the date of a special election. The board also has an option to appoint someone to fill the District 1 seat in the interim.
Visitation for Mr. Leftwich will be this Saturday, November 1 at the Central High School auditorium from 2 to 7 p.m. Services will be at the Central High School auditorium at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. Burial will be at the Hamilton Cemetery on Bold Camp.
