Virginia's Workforce Develpment Board has announced that our region (meaning the 7 counties plus Norton) have received a $1.9 million grant for job re-training for  displaced coal supply chain workers. This would include miners as well as those who worked for mine supply companies. The program details have not yet been released, but free and/or low-cost training classes will be available through Mountain Empire Community College for affected individuals. Details should be available in the next 30 days or so.

The program will be administered through the PluggedInVA program. You can visit their website (http://www.pluggedinva.com) for more information on PluggedInVA. The details for this particular grant are not available there yet but check back regularly for updates.
