Overdose Victim Crashes at Va/Ky Line

According to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Jeffrey Kilbourne was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Route 23 North, near the Va/Ky line. Arriving on scene, Deputy Kilbourne found the male victim from Johnson City, Tn was being tended to by Pound Police Department and Jenkins Police Department Officers as well as civilians on scene.
Witnesses advised the deputy that the male subject sat at the gas station for some time and his vehicle began drifting across the four lane at a slow speed then struck a highwall deploying all of the airbags. The male subject had a pulse but his breathing was labored. Deputy Kilbourne observed a purple glove in the subject’s hand, with a grayish brown rocklike substance in a baggie.
Deputy Kilbourne determined the subject was experiencing a possible overdose and quickly administered a dose of Narcan along with a second and third dose administered by other first responders on scene. The male became conscious while in the rescue and was transported to Norton Community Hospital where he received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.
Deputy Kilbourne issued the driver a citation for driving under the influence of drugs. The drugs in question, will be sent to the state lab for further analysis. Additional charges may be pending.
Sheriff Grant Kilgore would like to thank Deputy Jeffrey Kilbourne along with Officer Gardner from Pound PD, Pound Fire and Rescue, Jenkins Ky PD, Jenkins Fire and Rescue, as well as the private citizens who assisted with the case. Adding that their heroic efforts, surely saved the life of this individual.
