New Crop in Virginia

The Appalachian Craft Grains Project will help to produce malted barley. This new crop for Southwest Virginia will help Commonwealth producers to have a significant impact in the Craft Beverage Industry. To date, three area farmers from Lee and Scott Counties have already participated in a test grow. These test grows are expected to provide 2,500 bushels of grain at harvest time. Also in the works, are plans to build a Grain Processing Facility in our area that will be run by Mountain Empire Community College.
