Events at Natural Tunnel State Park.
On Saturday, April 25, is Natural Tunnel Kid's Fishing Day. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with fishing to start at noon.
Fishing for children ages 3 to 12 will continue until 3 p.m., at which time adults will be allowed to fish. There is no charge to fish.
The kids are allowed to take home whatever they catch. Fishing equipment and bait are not supplied. Participants will need to bring their own.
Other programs available throughout the day include archery and a BB competition, fly fishing and a touch-table on fresh water mussels.
Those wishing to fish should park in the picnic area and a shuttle bus will take you down to the Stock Creek Interpretive Center.
Also on Saturday is the “Run the Tunnel”. This 3.8-mile race begins at 9 a.m. Packet pick-up and registration begins at 7:30 a.m.
The park’s annual plant sale will be held on Sat., May 2. The Scott County Master Gardeners will be on hand to offer tips and suggestions on how to select plants. A variety of vegetables, herbs and flowers will be available for purchase. Parking is $4 per vehicle.
And on Saturday, May 9 a hike to the Devil’s Bathtub will begin at 10 a.m. from the Stock Creek Interpretive Center. The 1.5-mile hike is strenuous, crossing the creek 12 times going in and coming out, so expect to get wet. The hike will take roughly four hours to complete. This program is open to anyone 10 and older. For your comfort and safety, appropriate footwear is required — no flip-flops, Crocs or sandals. Cost is a donation of $5 per person. No pets allowed.
