According to the latest press release out of Wise County, Va:
Wise County Commonwealth Attorney Chuck Slemp along with Sheriff Ronnie Oakes announced that an operation was ongoing to conduct arrests of individuals recently indicted by the multi-jurisdictional grand jury for various drug related charges.
Officers from the Wise County Sheriff's Department, with assistance from the Southwest Virginia Regional Task Force, aim to arrest eleven individuals who have recently been indicted by the multi-jurisdictional grand jury on June 25, 2018. Alleged offenses include the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin. The cases stem from extensive investigations by the Southwest Regional Drug Task Force involving illegal drug activity in Wise County and the City of Norton.
Commonwealth Attorney Chuck Slemp stated, "We continue to work closely with out law enforcements partners to keep dangerous illegal drugs off the street and eradicate them from our community. Addressing the drug abuse crisis in our region has been, and continues to be, among our highest priorities. We are thankful for the amazing officers who have worked very hard to investigate these matters and make these arrests."
Wise County Sheriff Ronnie Oakes stated, "I am proud to be a part of this effort and thankful for the hard work of the officers involved in the operation today. Methamphetamine and heroin are dangerous substances. We are encouraged that this operation will disrupt the distribution of these drugs into Wise County and save lives."
While the operation is ongoing, and law enforcement officers are continuing in their efforts to bring wanted individuals to justice, the names of those targeted individuals scheduled to be arrested have not been released at the time of this press release.
