Lonesome Pine Expands Extension Care Unit

Lonesome Pine Hospital celebrated the opening of an expansion of the continuum of care Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by hospital representatives, Wellmont Health System, and the community.

Conditions where the hospital might utilize the intensive care unit include:

– Cardiomyopathy

– Respiratory failure with intubation

– Congestive heart failure

– Diabetes emergencies

– High-risk surgery with multiple medical problems

– Severe pancreatitis

– Uncontrolled blood pressure at high levels

Hospital President Dale Clark says because the intensive care unit will be located adjacent to the medical-surgical unit, Lonesome Pine will have the capability to provide additional nursing support to intensive care patients, when needed.

This addition is the latest in a number of new additions in recent years including a sleep evaluation center, an expansion and renovation to the Birthing Inn and a wound care center with hyperbarics.
