The reopening of Leeman Field was the highlight coming from of the Town of Pennington Gap Council Meeting on Monday Night. This reopening will be a welcome site for everyone wanting to use the facility this summer. The motion to reopen the park was approved by the council, under the stipulation that all Phase 3 Covid guidelines would be adhered to and any necessary repairs are completed.
There were several comments made concerning this reopening about making sure that there would be proper signage detailing the health guidelines necessary to ensure everyone using the park would be aware of the current safety rules. These detailed signs would address proper social distancing and other health guidelines which would allow the town to meet its obligation to have the park reopen.
Brian Skidmore, assistant town manager, noted that there were several repairs that needed to be made inside the park along with maintenance items and housekeeping. He stated that this work should be completed prior to the Memorial Day weekend. With the council voting to open all areas of the part, Town Manager, Keith Harless added that he was making contact with the Lenowisco Health District to get guidance on opening the basketball courts.
Other action by the council was the hiring of Mackenzie Brewer as manager of the swimming pool, replacing Richard Garrett, who we lost to COVID earlier this year.
