Lee County Hospital Authority will be buying the former Lee Regional Medical Center from Wellmont after a meeting on Tuesday, January 6.
Lee Regional closed in 2013 and recently was granted a certificate of need for the hospital in the county. The authority has been working with Wellmont about getting ownership of the building.
According to Commissioner Tom Clarke, the authority is pleased with the Wellmont board, and the agreement is for the building to be owned by the hospital authority, and allow to operate as a urgent care center hopefully starting April 1 and will target to open as a critical access hospital on the first of July.
A price agreement is still being negotiated, and will be further discussed at the next meeting on January 20.
