Police say they have arrested two shoplifters who attacked a loss prevention officer on October 6th at Kohl’s in the Kingsport Pavilion shopping center on East Stone Drive. The employee received scratches to the face, punches, a kick to the groin, and a hand slammed in a car door as the two tried to get away.
On Thursday, Kara Standifer of Pennington Gap and Natasha Shay Rogers of Jonesville, Va., turned themselves in on warrants at the Kingsport Justice Center. Their charges follow a press release issued last week by the Kingsport Police Department seeking information about the incident.
The pair reportedly stole more than $500 worth of merchandise from Kohl’s. Police said that after stuffing makeup and clothing into their purses, they exited the store and were confronted by a loss prevention officer. The incident report state that when the employee tried to stop the women in the parking lot, “he was bumped by one of the females, which initiated a physical confrontation.”
That altercation continued to the suspects’ vehicle, as the loss prevention officer attempted to keep them from driving away but was simultaneously attacked by the two women.
In an act of self-defense, the employee reportedly punched one of the women in the face. Both then fled in their vehicle.
Both Standifer and Rogers have been booked into the city jail on charges of felony shoplifting and simple assault.
