Lee County Pair Plead Guilty to Robbery

In today’s local news, according to a recent Press Release from the Lee County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office of H. Fuller Cridlin:
Mark Edward Bates and Christopher Joe Parsons, both of Pennington Gap, each entered guilty pleas to charges related to the robbery of Dot FasMart on November 15th, 2019.
The charges were brought after an investigation revealed that Bates and Parsons had cased the store together leading up to the robbery, with Bates later presenting a BB gun which closely resembled a pistol toward the store clerk demanding cash.
Bates and Parsons later admitted to robbing the store and then traveling to Kingsport, Tennessee, to purchase narcotics with the money.
A Sentencing Hearing has been scheduled for August 24th,2020. Defendants Bates and Parsons have both been held without bond since their arrest. The Court will impose their sentence after listening to evidence and arguments that will be presented by the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and the Defense.
