Lee County Sheriff Gary Parsons reports that earlier today Thursday May 5th 2016 that inmates on the road clean up crew working along Hwy 58 in the Flatwoods area found what looked like a bomb. The find was shown to the supervising Deputy, who immediately contacted his superiors in the Lee County Sheriff Office. Sheriff Gary Parsons, Major Woodard and numerous Lee County Sheriff Deputies secured the area and closed down a section of Hwy 58. A Sheriff Text Alert went out to notify the general public of the Hwy 58 closure.

Virginia State Police along with the VSP Bomb Squad, ATF Agents began special procedures to safely secure the device, while Lee County Sheriff Deputies detoured all Hwy 58 travel with assistance from VDOT personnel.
