LCHA announces new manager for hospital

Lee County Hospital Authority Vice-Chair Ronnie Montgomery has announced the group has signed a 60-day letter-of-intent with Americore Health, LLC, a Florida-based firm, to manage the hospital once it reopens.

Montgomery said they plan to work out details with Americore in the coming months with initial plans to open the facility's emergency room and then apply for licensure to become a critical access hospital.

The locality learned in 2013 that Wellmont Health System would close the Lee Regional Medical Center due to lower patient loads and cuts in reimbursement from the Affordable Health Care Act.

The Hospital Authority purchased the property from Wellmont in May 2015.
