Keokee High Scchool Almni Association member Doug Wilder, along with other members of the association have announced an effort to update Lake Keokee and the surrounding area to the resort status that the area was initially inteded and, the group say, has been taken for granted. Jeff Williams with the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has scheduled a meeting, open to the public, at the former Keokee School on Monday November 14 at 1 p.m. to discuss the issue.
Wilder says C.B. Slemp had presented a letter that showed plans to extend a highway from the lake to Dryden, for which funds had already been appropriated. Wilder also says the parking lot is a mess and clear cutting of the area has been opposed by the group. He says the lake could be a site for fishing, horseback riding, camping, picnicking and ATV trails if they can get the support they need.
