K-9 past away

The Wise County Sheriff's Office reported that on November 3rd, their former K-9, Duke past away from natural causes.

He was a Dutch Shepherd that proudly served and protected the citizens of Wise County.

He retired in 2013 after serving for 7 years as a Deputy K-9. He was a recipient of the National Police Work Dog Association National Valor Award for service above and beyond the call of duty. He was a recipient of several Wise County Sheriff's Office Gallantry Awards for apprehension of violent and dangerous offenders, and received several written commendations.

Duke was also responsible for the detection and removal of numerous illegal narcotics from the Wise County Community over the course of his career.

They would like to thank him and his handler Steve Arney for their service to the Wise County Sheriff's Office and the citizens of Wise County.
