Jermaine Christopher Johnson of Wise, Guilty of Multiple Charges

According to the latest Press Release from the Commonwealth Attorneys Office in Wise, Va. Jermaine Christopher Johnson, age 33 of Wise was convicted in the Wise County Circuit Court after pleading guilty to charges of Malicious Wounding, Attempted Second Degree Murder, Stabbing in the Commission of a Felony, and Trespassing.
On October 24th, 2016, Johnson entered lands belonging to an elderly resident of Wise and attempted to gain access to the residence through the front porch door. Hearing someone at the door, the property owner attempted to exit his residence through a rear entrance. It was at this point that the property owner saw Johnson and asked him what he was doing.
Upon being confronted, Johnson attacked the property owner with a hand held garden tool. The elderly victim was then slammed to the ground by Johnson and stabbed multiple times between the eyes, on top of his head, and on the back of his head. The victim suffered serious injuries.
Thankfully, a citizen bystander witnessed the attack and rushed to assist the victim.
This prosecution was successfully brought to a conclusion through the efforts of Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp and Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Josh Newberry.
Commonwealth's Attorney Chuck Slemp said, "We are committed to aggressively prosecuting crimes against our senior citizens. I believe the vicious attack of a man at his home should be met with swift and severe punishment. We are happy to obtain these convictions and thankful for the hard work of Investigator Charles 'Tody" Curry and the entire Wise County Sheriff's Department in assisting with the prosecution of this case."
Johnson pled guilty to these charges without a plea agreement from the prosecutors; thus a judge will determine his sentence at a hearing on September 17th, 2018. In total, he faces a maximum penalty of 36 years incarceration.
