INVEST-SWVA Virtual Celebration

In southwest Virginia, barley farmers were given a virtual celebration by the group INVEST-SWVA. The online event featured partners of Project Calypso, which has been working with small family farms in growing ‘malting quality’ barley.
INVEST-SWVA plan to market the local brand of barley as “Appalachian Grains” to regional breweries and distilleries, and possibly even outside our region.
This partnership includes the Lee County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Virginia Department of Mines Minerals and Energy, as well as Virginia Tech’s Small Grains program.
INVEST-SWVA is a public/private business attraction and marketing campaign for Southwest Virginia that was launched under the umbrella of the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission and backed by private industry. Their commitment is geared towards pushing big ideas and the future of work in southwest Virginia, including attracting and retaining young talent by focusing on high tech and higher wage jobs.
