Inmate Found Dead at Wallens Ridge Prison

At Wallens Ridge Prison located in Big Stone Gap a prisoner was found dead in his cell after an altercation with his cellmate. His name had not been released when he was pronounced dead mid afternoon at Lonesome Pine Hospital.
The 55 year old prisoner had a long list of felonies and was serving life plus 207 years for numerous convictions of robbery, larceny, assault and battery, carjacking and kidnapping/abduction.
His death was reported by the Virginia Department of Corrections last week and the incident is still under investigation.
Wise County Commonwealth Attorney Chuck Slemp stated that no charged had been leveled against other inmates at that time and were pending conclusion of the investigation. Slemp is working with investigators from the Department of Corrections in the matter.
