The public hearing for the hospital was on October 8 at 7:00 pm.
There was a great turnout from Lee County residents, over 400 people showed up and 47 people signed up to speak.
The hospital is proposed to be a critical access hospital. This hearing is a step to show The Virginia Department of Health that Lee County needs a hospital.
Tom Clark- Commissioner on the Lee County Hospital Authority stated some facts about the need for Lee County. Two things are needed to have a Critical Access Hospital. 1) Be the only hospital for 35 miles. 2) Live in mountainous terrain, with inclement weather, the miles are reduced to 15 miles.
Clark also The Hospital Authority is working very closely with Wellmont to transfer to Lee County in the next possible 45-60 days.
A decision will be made by the Virginia Department of Health on December 8, 2014
