The Lee County Hospital Authority met Thursday, May 14th to discuss the recent purchase of the former Lee Regional Medical Center, as well as advancements toward reopening the hospital. The deal was completed with Wellmont Health Systems for $1.7 million. The Hospital Authority will request that the county cover the $67,000 Delinquent Real Estate taxes. A number of service contracts will be needed including property insurance, electricity, an oxygen system, lawn and garden services, elevators, cameras, and many more. Facility responsibilities now fall to the Hospital Authority.
Ronnie Montgomery explained that it is the goal of the Hospital Authority to reopen emergency services to the community as quickly as possible and they hope to have all other services up and running by the beginning of 2016.
The commissioners will reconvene Wednesday May 27th at 3 p.m. at the Pennington Gap Community Center.
