A Scott County deputy conducted a traffic stop on an SUV with Tennessee tags for a defective and loud exhaust. There were three passengers in the vehicle in addition to the driver, Gregory Hensley, who was driving with a revoked license in Tennessee. The deputy asked Hensley if he had any weapons or if there were any in the vehicle. Hensley advised the deputy that there was a gun behind the backseat. The deputy retrieved a saw offed .22 caliber rifle with no serial numbers. The rifle was within reach of both backseat passengers.
Hensley advised that Mark Crawford, a two time convicted felon had put it there. When asked about the weapon, Crawford made a statement that the gun was for his protection, and that Helton was aware of the shotgun. During a search of Crawford, the deputy located several live .22 caliber rounds, red plastic cut straw with residue with tested positive for methamphetamine.
The other backseat passenger, Carrie Helton had a glass smoking pipe with residue which tested positive for meth on her person. All three subjects were taken into custody and multiple charges were filed.
