Foster Care in Virginia Sub Par

A recent legislative study has concluded that Virginia does a poor job of supervising local foster care systems and interceding when they don’t deliver adequate services to the children in their care. According to the study, Virginia’s 120 local foster care programs just aren’t very good at recruiting foster parents, reuniting families, or finding permanent homes for the children. The study went on to add that this has led to an increased dependence on costly and too often unnecessary institutional care such as group homes.
