Fire Training Brings Mobile Burning Building to Lee County

Volunteers from the Pennington Gap Fire Department took part in a two day training session, recently, at the headquarters of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department near Duffield. The Virginia Department of Fire Programs provided a mobile burn building simulator. For eight hours, each day, firefighters from Pennington, Jasper, Thomas Walker, Saint Charles, Dryden, Jonesville, Big Stone Gap, Wise, Coeburn and Duffield honed their skills in navigating through areas filled with smoke and what to listen for in intense heat. The Mobile Live Fire Trainer gave them a chance to practice going through a burning building and continue training for the Firefighter One Certification.
