The Clintwood Fire Department responded to a structure fire Sunday just before 7 a.m. on Knob Hill Road in Clintwood. 84-year-old Ida Vance, long-time owner of Vance's Skateland, was killed in the fire.
According to a news release from Corinne N. Geller, public relations director with the Virginia State Police, a mobile home was completely destroyed.
Clintwood Volunteer Fire Chief Steven Powers said it was too dangerous for firefighters to enter the home upon arrival. After it was extinguished, Vance's body was found inside.
An autopsy is being done at the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Wytheville Field Office.
